Montreal’s Mathurin a probably profitable guess for NBA rookie of the 12 months
The NBA Rookie of the Year award resides in Toronto this season in the capable hands of Scottie Barnes.
The chances of it staying in Toronto are slim at the moment. Christian Koloko isn’t even on the board in most sportsbooks in the NBA rookie race, though that could change.
The front-runner right now remains the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 draft Paolo Banchero of the Orlando Magic who is +200 going into the season to take possession of Barnes’ title.
Detroit’s Jaden Ivey, the No. 5 pick in the draft is the No. 2 choice along with Sacramento’s Keegan Murray who was the No. 4 pick in the draft.
Those two are both listed as +450 to win the award.
Those with a nationalistic bent can put their money on Indiana’s Bennedict Mathurin, a Montreal native and the sixth pick in the draft. Mathurin is +1000 to win the award.
