LOV: plant-based delicacies in Outdated Montreal
The restaurant LOV opened its doors in December 2016 and has been offering excellent vegan and vegetarian cuisine ever since.
LOV stands for Local, Organic and Vegan. This is what defines the concept of the restaurant, but it is also what inspired the name of the establishment. The vegan and vegetarian restaurant wanted to offer a dining experience that serves both healthy and delicious food, and it has succeeded. “I wanted to make a fun place with a good atmosphere, music and good products,” says Dominic Bujold (Crudessence, Pizzeria No. 900), the owner.
Designed by Jean-Pierre Viau and Jacinthe Piotte, the elegant decor in shades of green and white is very soothing. There is a large marble counter, a wooden floor, pretty lanterns and chairs hanging from the ceiling. The airy and open space is very zen. In a heritage building in Old Montreal, the establishment offers a cozy and friendly atmosphere that invites you to come and sit down, have a coffee from Dispatch or a quick bite to eat.
On the food side, the menu is almost entirely vegan and plant-based, and sources local, organic, and very fresh products. The house offers a varied cuisine ideal for small and large cravings: snacks, sandwiches, veggie burgers, salads, tartines, healthy bowls and comforting hot dishes – like their sweet potato gnocchi. Our favorite is the Burger Big LOV which tastes a bit like a Big Mac (homemade patty, vegan cheese, onion, tomato, pickle and Big LOV sauce). It also has a few options for those who are not vegetarian; just ask! The establishment also offers breakfasts. The menu includes morning bowls, toast, waffles and pastries from Sophie Sucree. The restaurant is now one of our best healthy plant-based restaurants in Montreal! Thanks for the invitation.
On the wine side, the restaurant offers a natural and organic wine list, designed by industry specialist Steve Beauséjour of the private import agency Rézin. On the cocktail side, LOV offers a selection of original herbal creations and smaller scale spirits such as Tromba Blanco Tequila, CIRKA Sauvage Gin and Berrio’s Jaral Mezcal. Romain Cavelier (Mal nécessaire, Henri St-Henri) is the one behind the drink menu.
“What is my favorite thing about the place? We have a complete team that gives them all; passionate people who love what they do!” We appreciate the place for their delicious vegan food (yes!), sensitive portions, quality and healthy ingredients, and fair prices. We also like the decor and the staff is very friendly.
