Atlanta United carry on MF Amar Sejdic from CF Montreal
Atlanta United acquired Montreal CF midfielder Amar Sejdic on Tuesday for $ 100,000 in general allotment money.
Montreal could receive an additional $ 50,000 depending on whether undisclosed performance-based incentives are met. Trading will be official on Wednesday when the secondary transfer window opens.
The 24-year-old Sejdic has remained goalless in seven games (four starts) this season. Overall, he scored two goals in 22 games (12 starts), with Montreal going back to its first appearance in 2019.
“We are very excited to add Amar to our squad and look forward to seeing him join the club immediately,” Atlanta United Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said in a statement. “He is a smart, responsible midfielder who recently came on on for Montreal. He will compete with our group of midfielders as we prepare for an important part of the season.”
Sejdic was a second-round pick (34th overall) in Montreal’s 2019 MLS SuperDraft after being a college star in Maryland.
“We were satisfied with Amar’s work, but we received an offer from Atlanta that we accepted after internal discussion,” said Olivier Renard, CF Montreal’s director of sport, in a press release. “We made this decision mainly because we have a lot of players in this position, including young players who are developing well and we don’t want to slow their momentum.
“It’s also important to note that Amar’s contract ends at the end of the 2021 season with an option for the next year.”
Atlanta United (2-3-6, 12 points) will play at Nashville SC on Thursday, while CF Montreal (4-3-4, 16 points) will face New York City FC on Wednesday in Orlando, Florida.
