OLD MONTREAL — Outdoor co-working space developer Aire Commune and the minds behind top-grade Villeray café Saison des Pluies (Erika Lafleur and Antoine Lacroix-Vézina) have teamed up for the launch of a casual waterside terrasse on the Old Port promenade. Starting June 17, head to La Cantine for an easygoing all-day menu of snacks, like salted caramel popcorn and fried cauliflower, seasonal salads, sandwiches — there’s a shrimp guédille and club sandwich — and some kid-friendly fare. Refreshing cocktails and natural wines by the bottle or glass are also available.
La Cantine is open daily from 11 am to 10 pm at 2 rue de la Commune Ouest.
VILLERAY — It’s coffee and croissants by day and aperitif by night at Villeray’s newest neighborhood gathering place. Called Tabac, the project comes from Montreal artist Patrick Bernatchez, plus partners Guillaume-Van Roberge and chef Jean-François Devillemure (of Cantine Barberousse in Gaspésie). For now, the offering is pared down, featuring pastries and bread (from Boulangerie Automne), charcuterie, fries, natural wines, and, on Sundays, bubbly and oysters (from the folks at L’effet-mer). Come September, the menu is set to expand, a representative from Tabac tells Eater.
Tabac is open Wednesday and Thursday, from 8 am to 10 pm; Friday, from 8 am to 12 am; Saturday, from 9 am to 12 am; and Sunday, from 10 am to 8 pm at 1370 Rue Villeray.

DOWNTOWN — Concordia University students continue to be spoiled for choice when it comes to pocket-friendly dining options in the area. The latest is called Mr. Tantuni, and per the Daily Hive, it is the first Canadian franchise location for a chain that counts more than 500 across Turkey and Europe. Its namesake dish is a popular street food consisting of thinly sliced meat that’s been boiled and fried and then wrapped in lavash bread with tomatoes, onions, and parsley.
Mr. Tantuni is open daily from 11 am to 11 pm at 1510 Boulevard de Maisonneuve.
GRIFFINTOWN — A group of industry vets, including Matthew Shefler and chef Vincent Lévesque-Lepage from Villeray Italian restaurant Knuckles, have opened an all-day cafe, wine bar, and restaurant on Notre-Dame, corner St-Martin. Read more about it here.
Nolan is open for walk-ins only, Wednesday to Sunday, from 9 am to 12 am, at 1752 Notre-Dame Ouest.
OLD MONTREAL — A new French restaurant and rum distillery has settled on touristy de la Commune Street, right across from the Old Port. It’s called Délices & Rhums, and it brings plenty of greenery into an old stone-walled space.
Délices & Rhums is open Sunday to Wednesday, from 9 am to 12 am, and Thursday to Saturday, from 9 am to 3 am, at 269 Rue de la Commune Est.
PLATEAU — After laying the groundwork for Italian-French restaurant and fermented food destination Cabaret L’Enfer for over two years, chef Massimo Piedimonte has officially swung open its doors. Read more about the much-anticipated new restaurant here.
Cabaret L’Enfer is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 6 to 11 pm, at 4094 Rue St-Denis.
