11 locations to all the time volunteer within the metropolis of Montreal

Sometimes we just want to do good. There’s never a bad time to volunteer your community, but with the holidays approaching quickly, December is a very popular time to give back to those around you.

If you’re looking to get involved but aren’t sure where to start, here are 11 places to volunteer, right here in Montreal.

McGill daycare

Do you love hanging out with kids The McGill Childcare Center is often looking for volunteers to help out with their daycare centers throughout the week. Volunteering at CPE McGill enables you to gain experience working with children and working in a team. Both of these are important skills you should have if you are looking to get into an apprenticeship or any other childcare industry.

YMCA Quebec

The YMCA is a well-known and ideal place for volunteering. Give back to your community by donating your time to one of their educational programs. Help children learn, help adults improve their health, help teens transition into adulthood, or help immigrants adapt to life in Canada – there is no shortage of opportunities to get involved with the YMCA.

Single MOMtreal

The Single MOMtreal organization aims to break the isolation of single mothers by connecting them online and in person and providing material and food donations. They are currently looking for carers and babysitters to give single mothers a break during the hectic Christmas season.

Montreal Native Women’s Refuge

Every four months, new volunteers are welcomed to the Montreal Native Women’s Shelter, an organization dedicated to providing frontline support and services to First Nations women to help them rebuild their lives. The NWSM is currently looking for volunteers for office work, childcare and the organization of the donation room.

SPCA Montreal

The SPCA is looking for people who are willing to devote themselves to animal welfare. We are looking for new volunteers for everyday life at the shelter, animal exporters and general small animal care. Plus, you can collaborate with some lovely adorable animals.

Redpath Museum

The Redpath Museum is a free museum on the McGill campus. They are always looking for new volunteers to help out with various events throughout the year. Whether you are available during the day and interested in being a museum guide or available for the free series of lectures at night, you are sure to have a lot of fun learning at this natural history museum.

Soup sisters

Volunteering in a soup kitchen courtesy of the soup sisters. Soup Sisters is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides shelter and food for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Animatch dog adoption

Help the Animatch Dog Adoption Center with its daily chores (and yes, that includes playing with adorable puppies). All you have to do is fill out a quick application and attend an hour-long orientation session and you are ready to become an Animatch volunteer.

In the street

Dans la Rue is committed to improving the lives of homeless youth and works with voluntary support. At Dans la Rue, you have the opportunity to work on one of their fantastic programs, from assisting in the depot, kitchen or in-house school and art room to working in veterinary clinics.

Moksha yoga

Volunteer at one of the city’s most popular yoga studios in exchange for free yoga thanks to the energy exchange program. While this might not be the most selfless act on this list, this unique program will help you stay in shape while engaging with your local yoga community at the same time.

Marien Hospital

St. Mary’s Hospital is one of several health centers in Montreal that accepts volunteers. St. Mary’s volunteers support employees, patients, and their families. Help Montreal residents provide quality health services and gain experience working in a hospital (ideal for aspiring doctors).
